Outbound Training Program

Outbound Training Program

On the 9th and 10th ,we went to Outboud training to Trincomalee Navy camp.

On 9th morning ,we started travelling at 3.30 am .Our bus stopped in Kandalai river. There we could see the beautiful river in one side of the road .There we took some fresh air and then started our journey back.

We reached Trinco at 10.30 am.Then we were given time to get ready. then we got ready and took our lunch there. After that our training activities were started.

We devided for 04 groups and we have different tasks to acheive.

First activity

There is a wood frame were hanged and 8 members have to go from one side to other side without any touching on that frame. So when one of us pass the square other members help to pass the square to him.So we learn how to work as a term through this activity.

Second activity

In this activity,we had to pass a marble through a PVC pipe.We had to join the PVCs ending to prevent it from falling down.We did our best in this activiy and finished before five minutes. From this task we learnt work with strategy and coordination.

Third activity
In this game they gave us bricks and each of every one in the team wants to keep the brick in their stomach and the person who in front wants to keep that brick without falling down by pushing it with his back and also the other condition was every one wants to keep their hands on the back side of the head then the group asked to move to the boundary line without fall down any bricks if any brick fall down then the team wanted to start from the beginning. But this time we didn't finished it correctly.

Fourth activity
In this time we were asked to fill the tube with holes.what we did was we asked one of uur team member to remove his t-shirt and then he lay down and we kept the tube on his stomach and all we hurry to fill that tube and we all ran to sea and get the water into our mouth and in both hands and ran back and poured the water into the tube. like wise we did it repeatedly and we made a huge success from our team work that means we filled it just in 2 minutes then the Navy officer took a photograph of our group.

Fifth activity
Its like a volley ball game.four of us keep a cloth and we have to throw the ball over the net and another one in other side of the net has catch the ball. This is really challenging game.we learnt Team Work from it.

Sixth activity
The last activity is tug war. In the first round our team won and the second round we lost it.because our boys got tired.

Camp fire and Dinner
Near 6pm we return to accommodation and get ready for dinner in formal dress.after that we returned the same place and make a camp fire and do some activities like drama, singing songs and dance.
after that we had our dinner .

After that we were divided into four groups.and the task is we have to go through the forest by using compass.it's really amazing and interesting.inside the forest one of the officer acted as a injured man so we have to act how to help him.that is very interesting also. finally we reached the destination and had a Tea.

After that we visited to the Navy Museum. that is very nice and interesting place.one of the officer explain all the things in there. That's a very nice experience to us and it helped us to know something about ships and other some sea related things.

BARTER PUZZLE

Last PPD session was an amazing  session. First we were divided in to 3 groups and was given a picture. We have to keep that picture in our mind. Then the team leader had tear it in to 100 pieces. After that Miss Sarasi took 10 pieces from each group and mixed them all and divided them among groups. What we had to do was to make the picture with a given time by using any strategy. We were given the opportunity to get the pieces through negotiations or through trading team members. We wanted to decide it as a group.

First we tried to separate pieces according to the picture and see what we can make.So we divided in to small groups and did it.

We solved the puzzle very well, but only one piece we missed. The second group lost 6 pieces to connect the puzzle, the third group lost 3 or 4 pieces.

Finally she decided that our team was successful.

What we have learnt from this session

Working as group.Planning before working.Time management.Situations handling.Decision making.

Stand on the paper&lava river

   STAND ON THE PAPER

To each of our groups a large paper was given. The objective of the game was for everyone to keep their feet on the paper and have no part of their body touching the floor. In this game everyone of our teams had to squeeze as much as together. For each round that was successfully ended, we had to fold the paper in half and attempt to stand on it again and kept folding the paper in half again and again until we were unable to successfully stand on the paper as a group.

From this game also we learn many things. Some of them are mentioned below.

How to work as a team. How to manage our given materials to reach our target. How to work in co-operation.How to maintain a good communication. How to balance the thingsTeam compatibility.

 THE LAVA RIVER

First we were devided in to 3 groups and each group had 8 members. To play the game lava river four plates were given as our materials. What we had to done was we had to use those plates and go across the lava river. The river was filled with lava so none of as cant touch the river.these plate can be placed on the river as stepping stones and can be moved around. If anyone makes contact with the river then that person was considered as fell in to the lava river and had to go back to the starting point. The team that got its team members across in the minimum time won.on the lava river there were some special point and on those point there were marks and that marks were added to our final marks.

From this game we got an idea about

How we can work as a team. How to communicate with others to achieve our received target. To work in co-operation.How our leadership skills should be improved. In which way we can use our ability in problem solving phase and etc.

What we learnt from PPD?

What we learnt from PPD?

From this ppd we have learnt a lot and enjoyed it well. And we got amazing experiences throughout this session. It helped us to develop our skills and know about us others strength too.

  • Self Confindence
  • Time Management
  • Dicision Making
  • Planning Skill
  • communication skills
  • How to manage stress
  • Team Working
  • Communication SkillsTeam WorkingPresentation Skills

Those are the things what we learnt from PPD mainly.

With the session PPD we learn how to help people when they need and also we get the knowledge when people need help and what are the different ways we can help them. ppd is a good session that we can develop our personal skills with enjoyable way

To develop that main ability and to communicate correctly and to respect our team members and to listen them, the PPD session is the most important part in our life .

And it also made
1. self-awareness.
We got to know who we really are; our values, beliefs and the purpose we wish to pursue. True fulfilment can never come from chasing other people’s dreams. If you want to achieve lasting happiness, you need to design your life based on who you are. Then you can chase your own goals and objectives. When you are chasing your own goals, there is as much pleasure to be derived from the journey as there is to be derived from reaching your destination.

 2. A sense of direction

Once you have raised you self-awareness, you are clearer on the things you wish to achieve from life. Decision-making becomes a lot easier. Tasks which used to take a great deal of your time, no longer make it onto your to-do list. You now realise that they do not move you towards your objectives and therefore are not worthy of your time.

 3. Improved focus and effectiveness

With personal development . Even with an improved sense of direction, there will always be multiple tasks looking for your attention. As your personal development improves, prioritisation becomes much easier. You are clearer on your objectives and you can quickly identify which task will give you the best result with the resources available to you at that moment.

Improved focus and effectiveness comes with knowing and playing to your strengths.

 4. More motivation

When you know what you want to achieve, it is easier for you to see the benefits of taking action. Even when the task ahead is not enjoyable; if you can see a clear benefit, you are more motivated to take the necessary action. There is truth in the old adage‘Where there is a will there is a way’. With strong personal development, you develop the necessary will.

 5. Greater resilience

There will be tough times in life. When these tough times occur, you need to have the skills and attributes to deal effectively with them.  Personal development cannot prevent all bad things from occurring but it will help you deal with them when they do. You will have greater confidence, resilience, personal and interpersonal skills to cope with any eventuality.

Personal development is a much used and much maligned term. It is about taking the time and, making the commitment, to invest in your greatest resource – you. When you put the effort in to developing yourself, the rewards are amazing. Many people are put off personal development because the results are not always measurable. However, the greatest achievers in life know that the key to success is the ability to manage yourself in a variety of situations. That ability comes through personal development.

Paper tower

Paper Tower

Paper Tower is a simple teambuilding activity that involves creativity, planning and teamwork.  Build the tallest tower using just A4papers and cellotape and scissor .

  • Materials required:12A4papers, 1cellotape, and a scissor.
  • Number of People : Three  teams of 8 people Time Required:45 minutes.
  • Rules: You cannot use materials other than A4paper and cellotape and scissor. The winning team will be decided according to the height and creativity and stability and streightness of the tower.

How Do we Play Paper Tower?

Give each team 45 minutes to plan and discuss strategy, and then start to build the tower. Each team will build a tall tower using the materials supplied.  When time is up, stop everyone and measure the height of the tower to determine the winner.  Towers must remain standing and not fall and be straighten.

At the very beginning of making Paper Tower ,we had not a plan how to built it.All of the members in our group presented their own idea about the basement and how to built it height. After long discussion our group member Shehara started to make the basement as her own way.It was right and it was accepted by all the members. Then we had a plan and started to build it all together and we made four supports for the basement. Then we rolled the papers like cones and pasted them one by one.But when tower's height was increasing, the straightness and strength went down. When the time was over we had used 11 papers and had made 2nd highest tower, from the three groups.

End of this activity we had learnt a lot.when we are doing anything we must have a plan and strategy about what we are going to do.when we are working as a group all of the members have the responsibility on that and someone should take the leadership as well. We must listen to others. And we also learnt to how to finishes the work within the given period of time.

Know about PPD

What is PPD??

PPD means Personal Progress Development.

PPD covers activities that improve our softskills.Such as awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations. Personal development takes place over the course of a person's entire life.

The phrase ‘soft skills’ is often used to describe the skills which characterize relationships with other people, or which are about how you approach life and work.

What are the Most Important Soft Skills?

It’s hard to judge which soft skills are most important, but this list is soft skills and the skills which are most likely to enable you to build constructive working relationships with others, or to be a constructive and helpful employee.

1. Communication Skills

Communication skills are always top of the ‘essential skills’ list in any job advertisement. People with strong communication skills can build relationships ,listen well, and vary their communication to suit the circumstances.

2.  Making Decisions

Valued by employers for many reasons, being able to make decisions is key to getting on in life. Sometimes the actual decision doesn’t even matter; what matters is that you have made one and moved on.

3. Self-Motivation

People who are self-motivated get on by themselves. They don’t need close supervision and they are good to work with because they are generally positive about life and can be counted upon to keep going. It also helps to work on your personal resilience and adaptability to change.

4. Leadership Skills

These are the set of soft skills that we least expect someone to develop by themselves.

5. Team-Working Skills

There is also plenty of thinking to suggest that good communication skills, particularly good listening skills, together with an ability to build rapport will go a long way to support your ability to work well in a team.

6. Creativity and Problem-Solving Skills

Creativity and problem-solving skills are highly valued because they are hard to develop. There are many people who believe that creative thinkers are born, not made, and there are certainly some people who find these skills much easier.

7. Time Management and ability to work under pressure

Many would say that these two skills, which often go together, are more an attitude than a skill. However, they can also be developed and honed, which is why we include them as skills. Highly valued by employers, they are also very useful for organizing a family or a team, and for making sure that the job gets done.

How to Improve Soft Skills

1.     Developing Your Communication Skills

•          Aim to be understood

•          Make eye contact.

•          Monitor your body language

•          Practice speaking

•          Develop your writing skills.

•          Pay attention to the other person's body  language

2.     Strengthening Interpersonal Relationships

•          Build relationships

•          Be friendly with colleagues

  •        Network with people inside and                      outside your organization

•          Practice leading

3.     Demonstrating Enthusiasm and Ingenuity

•          Take initiative

•          Do tasks without being asked by                       someone else

•          Seek more challenging work

•          Improve your problem-solving skills

•          Boost your creativity

Through out the PPD activities we can able to get all these personality and develop our softskills.
